Today's class:
1. Websites to keep ICT info up-to-date:
- evernote blog
- life hacker
One blog I decided to follow...iPhoto!
http://minds-iphoto.com/blog/
some cool tips for iphoto.
!!!!THEME CHANGE!!!
After doing my research, I've actually been thinking
about changing my topic for my TW... and now I'm almost able to settle
on a final topic! It's most likely going to be "Racism in America: An
analysis of Black Power through the study of Hip Hop".
self- memo:
Criteria for website:
1 - a website that has a design and style that matches the theme you
will be / are writing about in TW,
2 - a website that is designed according to the CRAP and PSE design
theories,
3 - a website that has a section for a bibliography made by Zotero in
one of the academic formats - APA, Chicago, MLA,
4 - a website that has a section for a presentation slideshow (maybe a
google presentation) on a topic related to your TW topic,
5 - a website that has a section for a video presentation narrated by
you and edited using iMovie with iMovie effects - transitions,
subtitles etc. and uploaded via youtube (again this should be on a
topic related to your TW topic and be very similar to the slideshow
above except with more effects from Keynote, PPT, iMovie etc),
6 - a website that has a section for a links page to other webpages
related to your TW topic,
7 - a website that has a section for a video links pages - maybe to
youtube videos related to your topic,
8 - a website that has a general information page (maybe the home
page) with info on your TW topic,
9 - a website that has lots of info on your TW topic (including all
the above) so that for anyone wanting to find out about your topic
your website provides a good starting place.
I hope I can make a gooooood websitee!!!

2012.5.7 Monday
just some notes for class....
Pandea
--> Memo for myself: check out later!!
interesting site for facts and basics for searching (AND/OR/AND OR/NOT etc)
"Elvis Presley"
Searching the "DEEP WEB" VS "Walled garden"
<USEFUL SEARCH ENGINES>
http://www.academicindex.net/
--> really good--brings forward academic sites!
http://www.hakia.com/web?q=ict+education+child
--> apparently only includes results that are recommended by librarians. pretty good.
Yovisto
http://www.yovisto.com/search.jsp
--> search for educational videos (GOOD:D)
* http://www.youtube.com/education?category=University
--> youtube educational version
<Summary>
the most important finding for today was that I could expand my searches beyond words but to visuals and videos. (and videos tend to be more interesting and less boring than pdf files of reports!)
I found some sites that I could definitely use when writing papers... for example, youtube university *recommended by Rab!) and Yovisto (it was listed the online-college-blog page). I've been using TED and iTunes U for a while now, but these two sites will definitely be colisted with my useful references bookmarks.
Thank you!

2012.5.2
What we covered in class:
TW writing e-Portfolio
--> Sample TW papers
--> Purdue Online Writing Center
Univ.
Useful Image-finding tools in Google Presentations
--> google images
--> flickr commons (old photos)
--> iStock Photo
Google Presentation tools
When writing essays, somewhere in my brain tells me that we aren't supposed to use photos in academic essays...but Today's Rab's class allowed me to rethink this and understand that as long as the photo is meaningful, inserted at the right time and "speaks a 100 words", it is worth to add it to emphasize my points.
I also didn't know gogole presentations had so many high quality tools..I have always used powerpoint, but perhaps I'll try using google presentation next time!

Topics we covered in today's class:
1. BibUp
2. Google Photos
3. Dropbox
4. Everenote
Today's class was focused mainly on productivity.
Personally, BibUp looks especially attractive to use--I borrow LOTS of books from the library when writing reports, so I always suffer through making bibliographies for books. This might make my life a lot easier. However, I often use Easybib instead (http://www.easybib.com/) and this looks up the ISBN and make the bibliography by just typing in the title. I'll have to try which one is better... what do you think???
But anyway, I'm really excited to try out evernote the most. I've always been spotting the green elephant icon everywhere, but hadn't had the chance to actually use it.
I'm looking forward to next class as welll!!!!:)

Class 3
Things we covered in class:
1. google books
2. Amazon
--> wish list
--> look inside
3. Zotero
I like using google books, but I didn't know that by selecting "full view", it enables me to search only for books that give me all the pages. This was pretty useful.
What was most useful today was the Zotero. It's easy to add, view, search, and most of all, make bibliographies and citations. Every time I wrote papers for classes, the bibliography part was a real pain--it was really time consuming. It's so efficient to use this to make bibliographies! I'd like to get used to this during this term.

Some of the things we covered in class today:
- Linkedin
- Posterous - Life Streaming
--> Tumblr
- TinyURL
I had no idea facebook kept track of all of the information we browse online-- it's really freaky:( (Not that I'll close down my account, but perhaps I'll be more careful and keep this fact in mind..)
TinyURL is probably pretty useful!
I also have interest in Linkedin - I'd like to try this out.

2012. 4. 16
Today we used safari and firefox to search and add extensions. I usually use google chrome as my browser, and I use google extensions. So it was interesting to see how different extensions there are on safari and firefox.
The most useful tool seemed like the "read later list" (the glasses icon). I usually opened a new window for everything I wanted to read later, and then kept it in my menu bar for later. This made my desktop messy, so I hopeI'll be able to find a similar one on chrome!!
